Coleman Greig Challenge: Save the date

May 23rd, 2018

The countdown for the 2018 Coleman Greig Challenge has started, so mark your calendar to join this annual event on Friday, 21 September 2018.

For the third consecutive year, Westmead Medical Research Foundation (WMRF) is one of the beneficiaries of an event that provides businesses and individuals with the opportunity to make a difference to the Western Sydney community.

During the recent launch of the Challenge, Coleman Greig Lawyers Principal, Andrew Grima, thanked the businesses who have already agreed to sponsor the 6th version of the event.

“In the past five years the Challenge has raised nearly $600,000 for our charity partners and the amazing work they do giving children with special needs and newborns opportunities and support to be the best they can be,” Andrew said.

“Participant numbers have also increased from 103 back in 2013 to over 500 in 2017.”

Once again, Olympian Jana Pittman is an ambassador for this year’s event, along with WSLHD’s former director of supportive and palliative medicine Dr Phillip Lee, who is also a cyclist enthusiast.

Grab your training gear and join the businesses and individuals who will come together to run, ride or walk in beautiful Parramatta Park and enjoy the celebratory breakfast offered at Old Government House.

In 2017 more than 50 WSLHD employees joined the challenge. Let’s beat that number this year with more participants and more funds to support the work of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Westmead Hospital.

Clare Classic 2018

April 6th, 2018

Dr Lee cycles for health in wine valley ride

WSLHD’s former Director of Supportive and Palliative Medicine, Dr Phillip Lee will compete in the 2018 Clare Classic this weekend to fundraise for the Westmead Medical Research Foundation (WMRF).

Dr Lee will be heading south to take part in the event on Sunday 8 April and ride through the picturesque Clare Valley, near Adelaide.

Dr Lee has already raised his target of $700 but is hoping for more donations to go towards the work of WMRF.

As someone who has seen first-hand how generous donors make a difference through their fundraising efforts, Dr Lee knows that small things in hospital wards like a new couch, a new paint job or nice curtains can make patients feel more comfortable.

“They improve the environment for families experiencing difficult time,” Dr Lee said.

Dr Philip Lee

“It is not just about looking after the patients, it’s about caring for the families to help them through their not so easy journey.

“Donor generosity leads to better patient care because the staff are just overwhelmed by that support and it gives them really good feedback about the job they’re doing.

“In the long run patient care actually improves from the high levels that it’s at already.”

WMRF head of development Joe Conneely is grateful to have fundraisers committed to the Foundation’s mission of supporting the delivery of medical research and patient care.

“Without the incredible generosity of fundraisers like Dr Lee, we would be unable to achieve these extra support measures in our wards for the patients,” Mr Conneely said.

WMRF spreads the word about its work to Western Sydney businesses

More than 120 business partners and guests attended “Business After Five”, a networking event organised by Parramatta Chamber of Commerce and hosted by Westmead Medical Research Foundation (WMRF) at Bertonia Lounge in Parramatta.

Westmead Medical Research Foundation Head of Development Joe Conneely praised the Chamber for the opportunity to host the event on Tuesday and thanked everyone for their attendance.

“Westmead Hospital has more than 330,000 people who are admitted annually and has just under 1.5 million people as outpatients, so it’s easy to say that Westmead has an impact on everybody’s life here in Western Sydney,” Mr Conneely said.

“The kind support of our ongoing corporate donors allows us to assist the amazing staff with their medical research, patient care and the outpatient services for the community since 1990.”

Parramatta Chamber of Commerce President, David Hill and Business Relationship Manager, Romina Bousimon, presented a certificate of appreciation to the Foundation.

Guests included Parramatta MP Geoff Lee, past and present board members of the Chamber and representatives from a diverse range of Western Sydney businesses.
