If you have ever taken a tablet for a headache or an antibiotic for an infection, then you have had some benefit from medical research.
If you haven’t, then you are very unique, but it is almost certain that you have a relative or friend who has been in need of – or will need in the future – a cure or procedure that would not be available if it were not for medical research.
This is why medical research is not something we should leave to others to support. It’s something that all of us need to support because in doing so we are not just helping others, we are actually helping ourselves.
The donations made by our supporters therefore have a multiplying effect.

|
| • |
Fund medical and research infrastructure. In the last 12 months, donations to Westmead Medical Research Foundation assisted in the purchase of:
| • |
An Interventional Neuroradiology Unit to assist in the prevention and treatment of stroke and aneurysms.
|
| • |
A DNA sequencing machine capable of analysing multiple DNA samples therefore allowing researchers to detect genetic mutations and identify several serious illnesses, such as cystic fibrosis.
|
| • |
A Bead Mirco-array System allowing researchers to understand and identify genetic markers that are associated with disease, assisting in the prediction of individuals more at risk of specific illnesses. Additionally, it will predict the response of patients to particular treatments with the ultimate goal of creating individualised treatment strategies.
