Where the money goes

Money raised from My Westmead is used to purchase vitally needed equipment and fund inititives that will help save the lives of our families and neighbours.

During the 2010/11 financial year, donations to the My Westmead program enabled Westmead Medical Research Foundation to purchase the following equipment.  Thank you!

Monitoring equipment for cardiothoracic ICU: $90,000

Upgrading and improving this equipment will enable surgeons and nurses to observe critically ill patients immediately after their operations, to ensure the best possible chances of survival and recovery.

Transport bed for neonatal intensive care: $75,000

The critically-ill babies in Westmead Hospital's neonatal intensive care are so delicate they can literally die in transit. This technology-rich bed will be used to keep them alive as they are rushed to the Hospital's intensive care unit.

Renovate accommodation in acute adolescent unit: $40,000

The acute adolescent unit at Redbank House cares for young people with serious mental illnesses. They stay up to four weeks, and the bedrooms are in desperate need of paint, natural light, and furniture.

Portable ultrasound for use at Westmead Hospital: $32,000

A portable ultrasound machine enables nurses to insert central venous catheters at a patient's bedside, rather than moving them, to provide chemotherapy, antibiotics and blood products.

Refurbishment in palliative care & oncology: $30,000

In palliative care, critically ill patients are given as much comfort as possible. Replacing worn out furniture in sitting rooms will enable us to create nurturing places for patients to spend time with family.

Electronic shower chair for palliative care: $11,000

A shower chair offers dignity and privacy to patients with advanced diseases, enabling them to take a shower on their own rather than be wheeled publicly past visitors in palliative care. (Note that the shower chair pictured here may not be the same as the chair purchased for Westmead Hospital).

General purpose wheelchairs for Westmead Hospital: $10,000

A hospital the size of Westmead is constantly in need of good and reliable wheelchairs. With more than 1 million patients a year passing through our front doors, new wheelchairs are an urgent need.

Please help us in our mission to reduce suffering and save lives. You can make an immediate and positive difference today.

They always give 120 percent support

Tiny, premature twins Ellie and Isaac were born at just 26 weeks. Both had chronic lung disease and spent 42 days in Westmead's neonatal intensive care unit, followed by more than seven weeks in special care.  Read more about their story >>
