DISTRACTIONS - $40

The young people living in the Acute Adolescent Unit at Redbank House in Westmead are in very great need.

They suffer from a range of complex disorders, including psychosis, severe mood disturbances and suicidal tendencies.

Some are as young as 12 years old.

This gift is a very simple way to make a difference.

It helps the psychiatrists provide a range of 'distraction' items for young people who self harm.

When a child reaches such an extreme level of anxiety that they want to hurt themselves (like cutting or burning), they are taught to seek a distraction instead. This could be a shocking sensation, like eating wasabi peas, or a relaxation technique, such as bubble bath or music.

Every child is different and each child will receive the most appropriate 'distraction' for their needs. This gift covers all bases: wasabi peas, bubble bath and music.

(In the event that this gift is overstocked or no longer needed, we will use your gift to purchase something of equal value and usefulness, to the same people.)
