Spreading Christmas Cheer at Westmead Hospital

December 18th, 2018

Receiving a cancer diagnosis is never easy. For many, the treatment they require comes with brand new challenges.

Loss of hair, eyelashes and eyebrows and dry itchy skin conditions can greatly affect patients’ self esteem, particularly female.

To help bring some festive cheer and happiness, patients at Westmead Hospital’s Crown Princess Mary Cancer Centre received an early Christmas treat thanks our friends at Good360.

WMRF worked with Good360, an organisation which redistributes excess brand name cosmetics and skincare to charities.

Westmead Hospital Crown Princess Mary Cancer Centre nurse manager Noeline Rozanc said there is evidence that women who undergo cancer treatment through chemotherapy or radiotherapy suffer hair loss or may feel vulnerable and lose their self-confidence.

“Make-up or beauty and skin products can help restore some of that confidence and self-esteem,” Ms Rozanc said.

“The Christmas pamper packs included brand new foundation, mascara, blusher, bronzer, nail varnish and eyeliner. We also received skincare products for males as well as Qantas pyjamas and slippers.

“A nurse said to me it was nice to give patients something for themselves and not just for their cancer treatment.”

WMRF head of development Joe Conneely said he was pleased to have been able to donate the gifts to help patients at Westmead Hospital.

“It’s nice at this time of year to be able to do something for our patients, and I look forward to working with Good360 in the future,” Mr Conneely said.
