A Night With The Stars 2010

A Night with the Stars is the premier gala event in the WMRF calendar, and the evening of Friday, 21 May 2010, was an unforgettable experience for all who attended.  Guests were transported to Doltone House on the historic finger wharf at Pyrmont Point by either a ferry, provided by Captain Cook Cruises, or vintage cars and a vintage London bus, provided by Cruisin for a Cure.  Honoured guests Senator Doug Cameron; Federal Member for Parrammatta Julie Owens; and New South Wales Member for Parramatta Tanya Gadiel joined luminaries of industry, literature and screen - and more than 400 of WMRF's corporate and individual supporters - at an night designed to awaken the senses.

Popular television presenter David Koch hosted the event, while musical virtuoso James Morrison, and smooth jazz and swing bands The Velvet Set and Discovered provided entertainment. Guests were treated to a stunning surprise after their entrees, as curtains dividing the room dropped, and aerial acrobats soared above them.

Global advocate Dr Helen Caldicott both inspired and entertained the guests, opera performer and former Westmead patient Janelle Colquhoun shared her extraordinary story, and one of Australia's best selling authors, thriller-writer Dr Kathryn Fox, offered a unique opportunity during the live auction: a character in her next novel.

All funds raised at A Night with the Stars 2010 went directly toward purchasing an important new machine called a 'cell sorter' that will be used by more than 900 researchers and doctors at Westmead to continue their life-saving work.
